Minimum Requirements for Cloud Server Hardware to Run

When it comes to cloud computing, it’s not always easy to predict all the requirements for your server to perform optimally.
To get it right with the hardware functionalities, you need to live test your server after setting everything up. This seems to be the best way which you’ll be able to determine the hardware requirements of your cloud server.
You’ll need to do this when you usually receive high traffic to your website. This time,  the browsers will be making simultaneous requests for accessing the cloud services.
Usually, the web visitors are counted from the time they open the  page, all through their hits till they close the page. This count also includes visitors who are logged on and guest.
The load on your server is also determined by the attachments and pages which needs to be stored in the Cloud, and this should be factored in the storage requirements.

Hardware Requirements

  • The Basic Requirements
There will be some minimum hardware requirements for cloud services. 1 gigabyte is the minimum requirement which is needed to run the cloud service.
However, you should  understand that there are other requirements in terms of physical hardware.
For example, there will be a minimum storage capacity to host the operating system and some other applications which are required to run the server.
Usually, the majority of the server load is driven by the high hits generated from the visitors. This is the reason it is very difficult to forecast the load size and the minimum storage size needed for hardware to manage requests successfully.
But there will be a set of absolute minimum requirement which can be decided for every cloud service. This may also depend on the configuration.
Basic Hardware Requirement can be
  1. CPU 2GHz with quad core
  2. 6GB RAM
  3. 10GB Minimum database space
  • Server Scalability and Server Load
When it comes to planning hardware requirements, it is also important that you estimate the scalability of the server by taking into consideration the web traffic, text size, size of the media files and admin to visitor’s  ratio as well.
The admin to the visitor ratio is the number of people creating contents versus the ones viewing the contents.
In all the cloud services, a total number of web pages on the website, which is also on the server does not influence the server’s performance, it’s the call of the pages from the web browsers.
For example, a website which has 10 thousand  pages may consume less than 1GB  memory in a month if the site does not receive traffic.
  • Hard disk requirements
It is understood that all the contents of your website are stored in the database but you should be aware that your attachments will be in the file system.
Because of this, if you’re having more media files, and integrated applications to your website, more disk space would be consumed.
  • Personal vs commercial websites
On your personal website, visitors mostly consume your contents without adding data to your server but in commercial websites, there will be sign ups, logins, feedback, inquiries, which adds more data and load to your server.
In every case, it is very important to make the right decision when it comes to minimum hardware requirements for cloud services.
So, these are the basic things which the cloud service requires for effective performance, therefore when a cloud service vendor says 1GB size is required to allocate the cloud service, you’ll not be surprised.
Because without this minimum heap size (memory), it will be very difficult to run the cloud service.
Along with this, one more thing which must be considered is minimum physical hardware. Without this,  it’ll also be difficult to run the cloud service.
Conclusion
There will always be some minimal requirements which are needed to allocate the cloud service and run all the required applications along with the operating system since these are the basic programs that are needed to put the server to work.
